Shigra handbags originated as practical accessories created by women for women in the Central Andean provinces of Ecuador. For centuries, they were used to carry seeds and plants, and researchers believe that the different sizes of shigras even served as a unit of measurement—for example, a 60 cm shigra filled with quinoa seeds was all you needed to plant an acre.
At Olga Fisch, we are inspired by the uniqueness and history of each shigra. We’ve transformed this centuries-old tradition into a modern-day accessory that adds authenticity and character to any occasion—whether for a day of adventuring, a relaxed beach afternoon, or everyday use.
The Dani Shigra stands out for its handwoven Andean strap combined with a bamboo handle, merging traditions from two regions of the Ecuadorian Andes into a single design. Each bag is fully lined with durable cotton canvas and features a convenient inner pocket for functionality.
