The Folklore is a software company empowering small brands to sell globally through easy-to-use cross-border commerce, dropship, and shipping technology. We enable small brands to seamlessly receive and manage wholesale and consumer orders, dropship across multiple global marketplaces, process global payments, and create discounted shipping labels. 

We primarily serve brands in emerging markets—Africa, LATAM, and Asia—as well as emerging brands in the U.S. and Europe. Our technology solutions empower brands to better connect with global consumers, retailers, and marketplaces that are eager to find simple solutions to the difficulties of cross-border transactions. 

The Folklore’s tools support fashion, beauty, home, kids, and lifestyle brands that have global growth ambitions and the drive to match, but have lacked affordable, easy-to-use solutions and the support to propel them forward in this competitive global market.

More than offering technology, we provide brands with access to a global community and educational resources designed to support their business journey from the idea staged through the growth stage. We offer brands the opportunity to grow their network and meet fellow entrepreneurs through our members only digital channels and global events, while also providing exclusive business guides, webinars, and mentorship opportunities.

Founder Story

Amira Rasool is a highly accomplished startup founder, public speaker, and consultant based in Brooklyn, New York. Amira is most recognized for her work as the Founder and CEO of The Folklore, a software company empowering small brands in emerging markets to sell globally through easy-to-use cross-border commerce, dropship, and shipping technology.

Amira’s work with The Folklore has landed her on several prestigious list including Forbes 30 Under 30, Vogue Business 100 Innovators, Black Enterprise 40 Under 40, and Entrepreneur Next Generation Industry Change Makers. Since founding the company in 2018, Amira has raised $6.2 Million in venture capital funding and brokered partnerships with Farfetch, Nordstrom, Macy’s Inc, and other notable global enterprises.

Prior to launching The Folklore, Amira served as a freelance writer and editor for TIME, Vogue, Teen Vogue, i-D, PAPER, Glamour, InStyle, V Magazine, and WWD. Her work focused primarily on highlighting Black culture in fashion, music, and art industries.

As a passionate Black history scholar, she earned a degree in African American and African Studies from Rutgers University, and later earned a Master of Philosophy in African Studies from the University of Cape Town. She is a powerful thought leader on topics such as diversity, equity, and inclusion and developing impact-driven businesses in emerging markets.
