Founder Story

Amira Rasool is a highly accomplished startup founder and public speaker based in Brooklyn, New York. She was inspired to start The Folklore after a trip to South Africa, where she recognized there was no way to easily access the small brands she discovered and loved during her trip online. In 2018 Amira set out to solve that problem.

Amira’s work with The Folklore has landed her on several prestigious list including Forbes 30 Under 30, Vogue Business 100 Innovators, Black Enterprise 40 Under 40, and Entrepreneur Next Generation Industry Change Makers. Amira has raised $6.2 Million in venture capital funding and brokered partnerships with Farfetch, Nordstrom, Macy’s Inc, and other notable global enterprises.

Prior to launching The Folklore, Amira served as a freelance writer and editor for TIME, Vogue, Teen Vogue, i-D, PAPER, Glamour, InStyle, V Magazine, and WWD.

She is a powerful thought leader on topics such as diversity, equity, and inclusion and developing impact-driven businesses in emerging markets.
